About workshops

We invite proposals for workshops at the AMSA 2027 Conference in Adelaide. Workshops addressing specific aspects in the context of the conference theme, ‘Resilience in a Changing Ocean’, are especially welcome, but other themes will be considered.

Themes exploring significant and/or new insights, technologies or collaborations associated with marine systems are also encouraged, as are themes that spotlight how cultural and traditional knowledge can inform and/or be informed by science.

Workshops are usually run directly before or after the conference and may incur additional charges for attendance. In special circumstances workshops may also run during the conference, but a strong case needs to be made.

Before you submit
Workshop proposals submitted after Friday 4 December 2026 cannot be considered.

Once submitted, your proposal will be considered by the Scientific Committee. The Committee may provide feedback on the proposal and a final updated proposal based on these comments may need to be re-submitted. Proposals that overlap in ideas and themes may be merged by the Committee.

Please ensure you read the guidelines carefully and are able to complete all aspects of the form before submitting a proposal.

Sponsorship

We invite workshop organisers to arrange sponsorship for their workshop to cover the cost of venue hire, audiovisual equipment and catering for your participants. Without sponsorship, the workshop will need to charge participants to cover these costs, which may discourage attendance. Alternatively, you’re welcome to host your workshop offsite.

What to include in your proposal

Please complete every part of the form. Have these details ready before you open the portal.

Only submit if you're confident you can organise and run the workshop. Cancellations cause significant disruption to the program.

  2. Principal convenor – Name, institution and email – all correspondence goes to this person.
  3. Co-convenors – Up to four, each with institution and email.

  5. Significance to the conference theme – Maximum 100 words.
  6. Principal convenor's experience – Your experience in the workshop's content area – maximum 100 words.
  7. Suggested attendees – People you are encouraging to attend, to help set the workshop's direction.

  12. Potential sponsors – Any organisations that could support the workshop.

Costs & logistics

Sponsorship

Organisers are invited to secure sponsorship to cover venue hire, audiovisual equipment and participant catering. Without sponsorship, the workshop can add workshop registration fee to cover these costs, which may discourage attendance.

Venue

Workshops can be held at the conference venue, Amora Hotel Adelaide, or at an alternative venue. Indicative costs are available from the Secretariat.

Your own costs

Workshop organisers and speakers are not exempt from conference registration, travel or accommodation costs.

What the committee looks for

The Scientific Committee will assess workshops on how well they are:

  • Relevant to the conference theme, Resilience in a changing ocean
  • Relevant to current issues or challenges in marine science
  • Fresh and new in content, with data on specific topics
  • Relevant and engaging for the audience
  • Clear about the take-home benefit for delegates

Where proposals overlap, the committee may contact convenors about options, which could include combining workshops.

How to submit

Submissions are made through the conference portal. You don't need to be registered for the conference to submit, but you will need a profile in the conference portal.
