About symposia

Symposia are focused concurrent sessions that bring together research on a shared topic. Any researcher can propose a symposium topic related to their field.

The Scientific Committee will select from the topics submitted and may combine or allocate them into sessions. After the symposium topics are selected, the call for abstracts opens and delegates submit their abstracts to the symposium that best fits their work.

Conference theme
Resilience in a changing ocean

Topics that connect with the theme are especially welcome – from ecosystem and species resilience, to the science, policy and communities that support healthy oceans.

What to include in your proposal

Have these details ready before you open the portal:

1

Symposium title

A clear, specific title for your session.

2

Description

Scope, intended audience and relevance – 200 words maximum.

3

Three convenors

Names, email addresses and affiliations of 3 suggested convenors.

4

One keynote speaker

Name, email and affiliation of 1 suggested keynote – this can be one of the convenors.

Before you submit
Please make sure your suggested convenors have agreed to take on the role. Convenors will review the abstracts submitted to their symposium and recommend which to accept; however, the Scientific Committee makes the final program allocations.

What the committee looks for

The Scientific Committee will assess symposia on how well they are:

  • Relevant to the conference theme, Resilience in a Changing Ocean
  • Relevant to current issues or challenges in marine science
  • Fresh and new in content, with data on specific topics
  • Relevant and engaging for the audience
  • Clear about the take-home benefit for delegates

Where proposals overlap, the committee may contact convenors about options, which could include combining symposia.

How to submit

Submissions are made through the conference portal. You don't need to be registered for the conference to submit, but you will need a profile in the conference portal.

  1. Open the submission portal. New users select Register or submit to this event; returning users select Register or submit with your Currinda profile.
  2. Select your submission type – Symposium topic.
  3. Enter your title in sentence case, with no punctuation.
  4. Add all contributors with their organisations, and complete each section of the form.
  5. Preview your submission, make any changes, then finalise it and return to your dashboard.
  6. Check your inbox for a confirmation email – and your junk folder, just in case.

You can edit your submission from your dashboard (View submission → Preview/edit) until the submissions close on Friday 4 December 2026. After the submissions close, please email any changes to Adelle Xue.
